The Trustees have been at work in all aspects of improving the Temple and our facility. At January meeting we welcomed four of the five new trustees appointed form the five benefactor lodges. The Board of trustees now is 16 strong, and all will surely make a strong contribution to the advancement of Masonry on Long Island, and to keep the History of our Craft alive for future generations. To that end, W:. Malcolm Shaw from Bethpage-Hicksville Lodge presented the Trustees an absolutely stunning two piece plaque and Medallion from the good Brothers of the former Mineola Lodge #985. It is cast in bronze and the medallion depicts a famous image of our Brother, President Theodore Roosevelt in his Rough Rider uniform. It has been mounted on the first level by the elevator and ensures the name of the great Masonic Lodge that was Mineola will not be forgotten! Please take a look at this plaque it is indeed a wonderful addition to our building. Thank you Mineola Lodge. AGAIN
The projects that are on the table for the trustees are numerous. We are continuing to pursue the mortgage re-finance. I made a typo in my notes from last month in reporting the amount remaining on that mortgage. It is approximately $450,000 not the $490,000 I reported. We continue to pursue all our options in this refinance. W;. Rich Hutchinson is doing our bank negotiations, and I will report the outcome as it occurs.
Currently we were told that the March 18, 2010 dinner dance for the benefit of the Matinecock Masonic Historical Society is proceeding famously. There are 150 people that bought tickets so far, and we sold over 50 pages of advertising. All these proceeds are to be applied to the mortgage reduction. So if you still want to go, please hurry with your Ticket purchase, time is running out. Please keep fundraising foremost in your minds, as the building is not complete until we retire 100% of the debt. We are in the process of getting quotes to build the library in the loft area of the Lodge. We have some funds specifically earmarked and donated to the establishment of a fully functioning library here at our facility. The Library committee has been hard at work to design the room, and has contacted Grand Lodge’s Livingston Library for their help and input. When done it should be a gem for all those who wish to research our craft.
Our new trustees were charged with helping the Matinecock Masonic Historical Society on gathering their respective Lodges memorabilia for display and electronic cataloging. They were also asked to propose names of Brothers that should be video-taped for our “Architects of Masonry on Long Island’ project that is underway. These interviews will be available on our new website (coming soon) and in the Rough Rider room on monitors. We will have an electronic museum one day, and it is being designed for easy access of all the material that will be catalogued and or displayed.
As always, all are encouraged to attend our Trustee meetings. We meet the fourth Thursday of the Month at 7PM at the Temple in Oyster Bay.
