Next time you arrive at the building, and are standing in the lobby, please pause for a moment before entering the elevator. Gaze to your right, just over the Elevator Call Button, and you will see thisbeautiful gift, that the M.M.H.S. has received from the Brothers of the former Mineola Lodge # 985. Thank you all!

Brothers,
As a child I had always enjoyed ...watching the Olympics, not truly knowing why.If I had to guess, I would have probably said that I enjoyed the pure competition. While that is still a part of the attraction for me today, I also enjoy seeing someone try for something larger than themselves, something for their country. This patriotic feeling or nationalistic pride is embedded into the Olympics, as it is in the principles of Freemasonry.
Freemasonry is about being proud of your country.
Freemasonry is also about doing something larger than satisfying your individual needs, it is about doing something to help others. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I think that charity is the cornerstone of Freemasonry and what makes our organization great. It is one of those “things” that we do, which make us better men.
In addition to being able to chant “USA” “USA”, the Olympics are as much about fair play and equality between the various participating countries. This type of equality is also a Masonic principle.Masonry teaches us to “be on the level” and to be “square” with all of our actions. The Olympic spirit is really several Masonic ideals put in practice, just on an international stage. There is a level of respect and courtesy that we only see in sports when the Olympics return to the international stage every 2 years.Of course, you can also see that level of respect and courtesy in Lodge at every meeting.
Hopefully as you watch, or look back on the Olympics, you will appreciate the Masonic ideals it embodies.
